Supporting Community Wellness: danceScape Partners with Florence Meares Public School

At danceScape, we have always believed that movement, music, and human connection are powerful forces for well-being.

That belief is at the heart of the danceScape Endowment Fund, established through the Burlington Community Foundation to support community initiatives that bring the benefits of movement, arts, and cultural experiences to people of all ages.

One example of this mission in action will take place on Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m., when danceScape will partner with Florence Meares Public School in Burlington for a Community Wellness Evening designed for students, parents, and families.

The event brings together families and local organizations to promote physical health, mental wellness, and community connection.

Movement for Families

During the evening, danceScape founders Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang will lead a family-friendly mindful movement session in the school gymnasium.

The session will introduce simple and accessible activities including:

• Gentle rhythmic movement
• Dance-inspired fitness exercises
• Breathing and relaxation techniques
• Interactive movement activities for parents and children

No dance experience is required — the goal is simply to help families move together, laugh together, and experience the joy of music and movement.

This approach reflects danceScape’s long-standing philosophy that movement should be accessible, welcoming, and supportive of overall well-being.

A Community Partnership

The Florence Meares Community Wellness Evening aligns with the Halton District School Board’s focus on student and community well-being.

The event will also feature community organizations supporting families across the region, including:

ROCK – Reach Out Centre for Kids
Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services

Ryan McLaughlin, CPE Teacher at Florence Meares Public School, shared his appreciation for the collaboration:

“Your focus on connection, confidence, and stress-relieving movement aligns beautifully with the goals of the evening, and we truly appreciate your willingness to support the event.”

Through events like this, schools and community partners help create opportunities for families to move, connect, and support one another in positive ways.

The danceScape Endowment Fund

Community partnerships like this are one of the ways the danceScape Endowment Fund helps extend the benefits of movement and the arts beyond the studio.

Established by danceScape founders Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang through the Burlington Community Foundation, the Endowment Fund reflects a belief that joy, creativity, and connection are essential parts of a healthy community.

The Fund supports initiatives that may include:

• Youth and family wellness programs
• Community arts and cultural experiences
• Movement-based activities that promote physical and mental well-being
• Partnerships with schools, cultural organizations, and community groups

Over time, the endowment continues to grow, creating a lasting legacy that supports community initiatives for future generations.

A Founder’s Reflection: Why the Endowment Fund Exists

The vision behind the danceScape Endowment Fund is deeply personal.

danceScape founders Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang have long believed that dance and movement can do more than entertain — they can help people rediscover confidence, connection, and joy.

That belief was shaped by life experiences that highlighted the importance of community support.

Robert’s parents immigrated to Canada in search of opportunity and built a life grounded in resilience, creativity, and optimism. His father was known for his artistic spirit and love of photography, while his mother demonstrated extraordinary strength during her battle with breast cancer — reminding their family how powerful joy, creativity, and human connection can be during difficult moments.

Over the years, the danceScape community has also witnessed many similar stories — newcomers finding belonging, families supporting one another, and individuals rediscovering confidence through music and movement.

These experiences helped inspire the creation of the danceScape Endowment Fund, established through the Burlington Community Foundation as a way to give back to the community that has supported danceScape for many years.

The goal is simple: to help create opportunities for people — especially youth and families — to experience the confidence, joy, and connection that movement and the arts can bring.

Events like the Florence Meares Community Wellness Evening are small but meaningful examples of that mission in action.

Moving Forward Together

Opportunities for families to pause, connect, and experience simple joy together are more important than ever.

Something as simple as moving to music — whether through dance, rhythm, or mindful movement — can help reduce stress, strengthen relationships, and build confidence.

danceScape is grateful to Florence Meares Public School and the Halton District School Board for inviting us to participate in this initiative and for their commitment to supporting community wellness.

Through partnerships like this, the work of the danceScape Endowment Fund continues to grow — helping people move, connect, and thrive together.
